About the Creators
I am delighted to share the story behind the Mogs Phonic Book Series, a labour of love and collaboration with my sister, Gilly. Together, we’ve created a resource designed for parents and teachers to help dyslexic children learn to read in a way that is both fun and effective.
My sister, Gilly, has spent over 40 years teaching dyslexic children, having been trained by Dr. Beve Hornsby at St Bart’s Hospital in London. Her deep understanding of the challenges faced by struggling readers has guided every aspect of this project.
As for me, I bring a love of storytelling and language to our partnership. With a degree in English and Journalism from Rhodes University in South Africa, I’ve written books for family and friends over the years, including biographies and a collection of fairy tales. When Gilly approached me to create an alphabet book for her students, I was excited to help—and that initial book grew into the first series of 12 decodable books each focusing on a specific phonic rule from Dr. Beve Hornsby's Alpha to Omega programme.
Working under Gilly’s direction, I’ve been inspired by her passion and dedication to her students. Together, we are already planning two more series to build on the foundation we’ve created. It’s been a privilege to bring my skills to this project and to help make reading fun, intriguing and accessible for children who need it most.
